Alexandre Pinguely formed the Pinguely Company in eighteen eighty one in Lyon, France. At first, they constructed steam locomotives. The company eventually evolved into making equipment. In eighteen ninety two, they supplied a train to the Chemin de Fer de St Victor à Thizy.
The company supplied 7 trains to the Voiron-Saint-Béron railway. Pinguely was not considered a main steam engine manufacturer when it comes to numbers produced. The company provided a steam train to the Chemin de Fer du Haut-Rhône in 1930 and by nineteen thirty two, Pinguely started making steam shovels. Production of steam locomotives was stopped and the company started concentrating instead on mobile cranes and manufacturing earthmoving machines instead.
